AARP Foundation Experience Corps

Seeking Volunteers Age 50+ to Help Children Read

Children who can't read at grade level by fourth grade are four times more likely not to graduate from high school. As an Experience Corps volunteer tutor, you'll implement a structured tutoring method that helps students become fluent readers by the end of third grade.

Experience Corps volunteers receive extensive training, which prepares them to provide individual tutoring, small group work and, at times, classroom assistance alongside teachers. What's more, you’ll be engaged in meaningful work, using your knowledge and experience to guide the next generation of readers and help turn their dreams into reality.

The program is currently recruiting volunteers for the 2019-2020 academic school year to tutor during the after school expanded learning programs in about 10 schools in and around zip code areas 92102, 92103, 92105, 92113, 92115, 92116 and 91945.
