Now Playing: Summer Movies at Parks!

The 2018 season of Summer Movies in the Park kicks off at the Waterfront Park on May 25 and runs through late October. The annual event is bigger and better than ever with 151 screenings at dozens of parks across the county. All screenings are free and open to the public. Movies are rated G through PG-13. Healthier Living with Chronic Conditions
HHSA & Live Well San Diego

An evidence-based self-management program originally developed at Stanford University, now managed by the Self-Management Resource Center, this program is designed for people with chronic conditions as well as their family members and caregivers. The program consists of a free workshop that meets once a week for 2 ½ hours per week for six weeks, led by two trained peer educators, who may also have a chronic condition.

Topics include:
  • Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation
  • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • Appropriate use of medications
  • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
  • Nutrition Decision making
  • How to evaluate new treatments

Alzheimer's Dementia Prevention Informational Event

Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center

Dr. Douglas Galasko, an expert neurologist in the field of Alzheimer’s, will share his knowledge about what we know and don’t know regarding the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. He will discuss interventions and clinical trials aimed at prevention which are being conducted at UCSD. This talk should be of special interest to people who are 60 or older, particularly those who have a family history of dementia.
