Live Well Center Opens in South Bay

The County Health & Human Services opened its South Region Live Well Center. The first Live Well Center opened in Escondido last year and has become popular with residents. The South Region Live Well Center at National City will allow the County to better serve residents and advance its effort to have healthy, safe and thriving communities. Focus on Orange County Public Pension Debt Per Household?

Columnist Teri Sforza writes a lot critical of public pensions. Here she highlights a recently launched website www.pensiontracker.org sporting data on liabilities for all California agencies. The news peg is distributing the debt “burden” on a per household basis and comparing it across agencies (cities, counties, districts). All the Data You Need About Pensions is Now in One Place

The Public Plans Database (PPD) consists of detailed financial and actuarial data for some of the largest public pension plans in the nation.  This “state quick-fact” provides a summary of large pension plans and retirement systems in the state, with links to more detailed information for plans included in the PPD. With few exceptions, the data covers the period from 2001 to the most recently available plan reports, and the historical charts presented in this page mirror the period for which PPD data are available. Plan to Reduce Pensions for Teamsters Halted for Now

The troubled Central States pension fund serves 270,000 union drivers and retirees. A plan to curtail benefits and reorganize the fund, which is on track to go bankrupt in 10 years, was rejected by the Treasury Dept. recently. This is a temporary reprieve as the fund is paying out $3.46 in benefits for every dollar contributed. If the fund fails, the cuts will be much more drastic and because the plan is so big it would wipe out the federal insurance for this type of plan.
